Patriarchy to me
Please tell us about your submission (maximum 600 words)
My poem is about how I see patriarchy. I talk about how women and people of other genders are put down and told to follow what society thinks are people's roles in society. When I end it with “they hold us down” after each stanza I’m talking about how in each category they are trying to make us inferior. In the last stanza when I end it with “they can’t hold us down” I’m speaking on how we are not to follow these social norms that have been put out because we are powerful and have our own ways of navigating.
What is something you learned about patriarchy and what is something you would like to change about what you learned?
I learned what it actually meant because I have heard the word, but never really understood its full meaning. I would like to change how women and people of other genders are seen.
