My submission and choice of song was influenced by my love and faith in Jesus Christ. Patriarchy to me is not only men holding all the power, but also encourages degrading women and not acknowledging how much we impact the world. The Bible promotes the belief that everyone is equal and has a purpose/calling from God. Husbands (men in general) are called to love their wives (women) and therefore treating them as though they are inferior does the exact opposite. As I glorify the Lord as my Champion I also declare my own victory in his name and advocate that I, a woman, am just as worthy and deserving as anyone else on this earth.
What is something you learned about patriarchy and what is something you would like to change about what you learned?
I learned that patriarchy is deep-rooted in history and it takes precedence in the male population. Just as God made Eve from Adam I believe their are roles that each person should assume, but this does not entail any party feeling less than. I'd like to change how we view social norms and not get so stuck on what the world views as "right", but what God has called each and every one of us to do. A father can be a "stay-at-home dad" while the mother assumes the role of the breadwinner of the family and vice versa.
