This is a board that I have gathered iconic quotes by some of my idols as well as personal views I agree with. All of these quotes are views that are helpful in dismantling the patriarchy from it's roots. If the roots are plucked out then a new tree will be able to grow, one that is all about equality and freedom. I will go in depth about some of the chosen photos:
Cher's quote: When thinking about this project this was one of the first quote that came to mind. One of the things that kept women back for so many years was legally they weren't allowed to own money until the first wave of feminism. This mindset of marrying rich is still popular to this day not only in other countries but also in the US. When we think of rich people many are likely to think of Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, ect. None of them are women which has to do with the way society thinks which is why Cher's quote is really inspiring for all women.
"Boys need to be held accountable for their actions": As a person who has been through sexual harassment before and has heard similar stories from my friends since I was young this quote really hit home for me. The idea that "boys will be boys" is the reason why many not only boys but also grown men get away with this kind of behavior. No one should be given a pass based on their gender for unlawful conduct.
"So let me get this straight, I can wear pants in public but he can't wear a dress": The patriarchy does not only hurt women but also other genders. Because of the patriarchy many are shamed for not being "manly" or "masculine" however no clothes should be seen as less worthy and people should be allowed to express themselves the way they wish. Being feminine, masculine or anything in between should be a personal choice that society should not dictate.
What is something you learned about patriarchy and what is something you would like to change about what you learned?
